Picasaweb 3 is out

Barely 2.5 months in Beta, Picasa 3 is officially released. There are bunches of new features and enhancement in the new release. For a start, you’ll be amazed with how Picasa automatically assembled photos, images and other media in your local hard drive.

To lite photo editors like me, the enhancement of red eye fixes which took only 2 steps is extremely easy, as well photo editing to remove minor blemishes and distraction from the photos.

There are also more ways to organize photos now. You can create photo collages, create wall paper, make video slide shows, short movies, video presentations and etc.

Sharing the photos ias  breeze. You can email, send to Youtube, or upload it to Picasaweb. There is alo ‘Sync’ function in which if enabled, will automatically sync photos in your computer to your Picasaweb account on the net seamlessly.

There is also screen capture function which save the screen shot automatically to your Picasa. Not that it can match to SnagIt, but it is better than to do it 2 steps in a traditional way (usual print screen).

More curious?? Head to picasa or watch video below for details.. Already familiar? Download it.

Yahoo Glue

It seems like the departure of Jerry Yang, as well as the recession doesn’t stop Yahoo from rolling out another service.

Yahoo Glue aims to provide a new perspective of search to the users, where search result assembles variety of media types in a single page, not only text links.

A search on Jerry Yang, returned the wiki page, images, books, videos and surprisingly even Google Blog Search.

It is extremely useful if you’re looking for places. Search on Kuala Lumpur returns everything you need to know about it. Map, weather, photos, Hotel, news and etc

However, not all queries return results, such as Memey icon smile Yahoo Glue

Just like other community oriented portal, you can flag the content you feel is inappropriate.

Interestingly, you can sign up to be a Glue publisher, if you think your website’s content deserves to be here. Perhaps, that’s the answer why Google Blog search is there.

Paypal now speaks your language

After Facebook translated to Bahasa Malaysia few weeks back, it is now Paypal’s turn to announce the same. This round, besides Bahasa Indonesia , it also translates to Thai and Traditional Chinese (for Taiwan) but not Bahasa Malaysia.

I spotted Malaysia flag on the page, but to my disappointment, this is not Bahasa Malaysia, but Bahasa Indonesia.

Would you understand what this sentence means at a glance? Well, I’ve to scroll down further before I know that fitur = feature @ ciri-ciri in Bahasa Malaysia. Not too bothering though.

It’s now common that, for any services/applications translated to Bahasa Malaysia, it will sound like Bahasa Indonesia. I’m not against that, it’s just that sometimes it is misleading non-Bahasa Malaysia spoken population, to believe that, Bahasa Indonesia & Bahasa Malaysia is exactly the same, even though they’re literally different.

Applaud the effort, but perhaps Paypal should be aware of the difference between Bahasa Indonesia & Bahasa Malaysia. Nonetheless, Bahasa Malaysia-spoken population can still understand sentences in Bahasa Indonesia and this is useful in that sense.

Indonesia has obviously larger population, which means larger internet users (considering Jakarta itself has over 22 millions population). This might be taken into consideration when Paypal decided to go with Bahasa Indonesia.

Besides, Malaysia is among the English-fluent country in this region. Personally, I’m more comfortable with English when I browse the net. It’s just sound weird when it’s translated.

Experimenting new Windows Live

Much has been talked about the new Windows Live. But is it worth your attention? It is common that Microsoft products & services garnered not very positive responds from blogsphere (you know why icon smile Experimenting new Windows Live ).

I spent some time play around with it over the weekend. Sharing here for fun and critics

Sign Up@live – It accepts all email addresses. Hotmail or live account holder can sign in using their account. This is how the Windows Live home looks like.

Software bundles – Among the first that I tried once signed in. It consists of the following items.

  • Windos Live Messenger
  • WIndows Live Email – Email client, just like Outlook or LotusNotes. Didn’t go through, but I managed to download my gmail emails into it
  • Windows Live Writer – Text editor, where you can post an entry to your blog
  • Photo Gallery
  • Family safery for Windows Live OneCare
  • Toolbar

Hotmail – No need of any introduction, it is a web based email, in a more simplified look. Comes with 5GB space.

Personalized page This is just like  iGoogle or My Yahoo where you can personalize your Live pages.

Spaces – Don’t confuse space with Windows Live personalized page above. With Windows Live Space, you’re allocated a URL, just like a MySpace URL, where you can choose a lot of services/tools available ‘module’ here), share with your friend just like my experiment space.

Apart from the default option shown above, there is a lot more you can do here. Customize the look (themes, template, layout) add more modules.

  • Windows Live Sky Drive – Of all the features offered, personally I admire this the most. Sky Drive allocates 5GB for each account. You can create folders, share it to your friend or even make it public.
  • Friends – Just like any other services, this is where you find, invite and add friends. At present, it only has 2 options, get invited by friends or your messenger contacts.
  • Photos – As the name says, this is where you can keep your photos. It is pretty slow to load photos here. I wish it has something like Flickr Uploader

There are bunches of tools and gadgets here for your Vista, Messenger, internet browser toolbar, Space, personalized page. If you’re serious about getting your space or personalized space full with ‘useless’ gadgets and tools, this is where you should spend most of your time.

When I first opened ‘space’ and ‘personalized space’ menu, I paused awhile. Where is the gadget?? How can users make their spaces and personalized pages look crammed? The answer is here.

Once in awhile, I feel that it is the right move to put the gadgets here, and from here, put an option for users to drop these gadgets anywhere they want. It is like a ‘warehouse gadget’ for the whole Windows Live. I just wish that there is a link from ‘space’ or ‘personalized page’ linking to this, so first timer ‘gadget-lover’ users do not step out too soon when they realize there is not much gadget to offer.

Office Live – The lite version of Microsoft Office on the net. Allows you to upload documents from your system, and create new documents online.

Conclusion

I’m not a fan with  ‘all-in-one’ portal like this or even iGoogle. But the new WindowsLive offer much more than what I thought. With single registration (except hotmail), you’ll get a bunch of applications that I had mentioned above.

Microsoft is not doing very well on its online application suite, and by putting every piece of its applications in a single place like this, I feel that Microsoft has put more effort and is serious about building a community-based business on the web. But it’s too early to conclude if Microsoft will succeed. After all, Microsoft should build its relation with blogsphere communities, so that whatever launched, bloggers would impatiently and voluntarily review the product,  just like its chief competitor, Google.
