Paypal introduces security key texted to your mobile (SMS)

paypal logo Paypal introduces security key texted to your mobile (SMS)

Paypal has taken a security measure to the next level, maybe on par with financial institution’s internet banking with a new security feature.

Familiar with Maybank‘s TAC (transaction authorization code)?? If you’re a Maybank’s internet banking user, sure you’ll be. So, this one has almost similar concept with that.

The new feature is the extension of the Paypal Security Key token introduced earlier. Besides the key being generated from the token, there is another option where the key is now sent to your registered mobile phone.

But wait, this security feature is at present not available in most countries including Malaysia. The lucky ones are United States, Australia, Austria, Canada and Germany. Paypal account holders from these countries can register via registration page.

No second security layer to us just yet, so make sure you secured your account sufficiently.

You’re too vulnerable to attack from harmful email via Facebook

Despite Facebook’s victory against spam, on which Facebook won lawsuit against Adam Guerbuez and Atlantis Blue Capital, which slapped with massive 800 millions charge, this doesn’t seem to send a tough ‘signal’ to them.

This nut is tough to be cracked right?

It was a ‘historic day’ yesterday, when I’m among the luckiest ones who received spam from them. It’s not me alone actually, but it seems that it spreads among the circle of friends in Facebook.

At a glance, this email looks legit. Yes it does, since this email was sent from legit Facebook email adress, and it was sent by your ‘friend’.

But the truth is, this is not something that they intend to do. The account is being manipulated by ‘unauthorized’ party to fool you and hence trick you to click on the harmful links. No clue how it was done, but it could be due to the carelessness of the users, when accepting/using certain applications that require you to agree on T&C (without reading any further) and then to notify all your friends. This is just my wild guess though.

But lucky me, Firefox prevents this page from being opened. I’m then certain on what is inside(something bad) but what will happen if I’m using Internet Explorer or Chrome, would it effectively kill this threat like Firefox??

It is quite troublesome to identify which one is legit or otherwise. You’re vulnerable to any attacks regardless how cautious you are.

In this case, keep yourself reminded not to open any Facebook requests sent via email. And, control which email you want to receive from the setting page.

Experimenting Zoho

So far, Google Doc is the only web office suite that I’ve used. I don’t like the idea of signing in to different websites. I prefer all in one suite such as Windows Live but with greater web experience.

Zoho is not a new name and is among the pioneers in office suite, and in fact the first that allows editing offline by utilizing Google Gear, even before Google doc used it on its Google Doc.

Zoho allows signing in using Google ID, and that is the reason why I really want to use it. And it offers more than what Google Doc has.

Borrowing Zoho’s sentence, Zoho is a collection of collaboration & productivity tools for personal and business purposes, applicable for everybody’s usage. Screen shot below is a part of what Zoho offers.
