New Dell Studio – photos and videos

Dell Studio makes its first appearance in US Dell store on June 26th even though Gadget blogs such as Gizmodo and Engadget has smelled it even earlier.

In line with Dell’s ‘philosophy’ of making cheap laptops but with gorgeous look, the design is inspired from its older sibling XPS, but with bulkier, weightier with middle end specification. That’s why Studio was there, to fill in the gap between Dell Inspiron and Dell XPS family.

This is not a review, but merely my view as a common laptop user. So don’t expect any high tech jargon used in this post. So far, Studio comes with 15″ and 17″ screen and is only powered with no really high spec Core 2 Duo (no AMD yet). Full specification can be read here.

This is the presentation of Dell Studio in Youtube

Other than its slick design, Dell Studio’s Vista has been touched up with with an appearance of Dell Dock, a short cut menu which you can see on top of the desktop. Watch the brief presentation.

70 most popular blogs in Malaysia

I bet you have read it somewhere else. I even got to know about it via MohdIsmail. Syed Syahrul is presenting yet again 70 most popular blogs in Malaysia for 2008 (plus another 29 blogs as a bonus).

This year, he used Alexa rank as a method of building this list, instead of Tecnorati due to the reason he stated in the post. As expected, many bloggers claim that their blogs are not listed (as shown on the comment section) even though they has better rank. Well, keep in mind, that this is 70 most popular blogs. Popularity is subjective and it can be interpreted in any way the author desires.

At a glance, the list consist of blogs with variety of topics from technology, politic, fun, make money online, travel and etc. IMHO, The top 10 list is pretty accurate, except that it has missed out Raymond.cc, a popular tech blog. Anyway, I’m not in the list, but I’m thankful with it as I got to know ‘who’s who’ in Malaysian blog sphere. I applaud his effort of making this list which is not easy, and definitely requires a lot of resources.

Aside from this list, I came across Top 100 Australia blogs, a few days back. The major difference between these 2 lists is, instead of relying on 1 variable such as Alexa or Technorati, it calculates the ranking based on formula derived from few variables. While many still claim this to be inaccurate (there is no real formula to measure the popularity of millions websites around the world except perhaps only to 10 or top 100), but at least it has taken a measure of using more sources.

Few areas that need consideration:

  • This is gonna be popular later, so make this list permanent in 1 permanent URL, with past ranking archived
  • Update it more frequent (this is tough)
  • Use more variables such as mentioned above. It’s gonna make this list more accurate thus less argued. Yeah, everyone wants to be in the list.

Keep it up Syahrul

Last t-shirt up for grabs is open to everyone

I should have posted this earlier, but I had purposely waited at the very last minute to surprise you and who is truly a commentator here.

To refresh back what is this all about, on January, I organized the Top Commentator contest, whereby the top commentator on blogjer will receive a t-shirt. The contest runs from January – June 2008.

Initially, the past winners are not eligible to win another t-shirt for the next month contest, even though he still becomes the top commentator for the coming months. But today I had made up my mind, to open this contest to everyone, including the past winners such as Raymond, Izat (is your blog down?) and his girlfriend, Azwan, Dekan and Catzer (your t-shirt is in process by vendor). Do you mind to see them win it again?

I’m not sure what kind of tshirt it would be, but rest assured it would be the best (but doesn’t mean expensive). I came across a couple of nice t-shirts overseas (tech related blog), but I haven’t had the chance to survey how much the shipping cost would be.

So far, all winners are from Malaysia, but keep in mind that this contest is open to everyone and from anywhere. There is no border limit, even if you’re from Iraq, Maldives or even Artic as long as there is postal service over there. This rules out aliens from space since no postal service extends their service to that place, yet.

Enough said, keep it going okay. See ya’ll July 1st.

psttt.. I had just done the makeover to my tshirt blog, it looks better now. I’ll keep posting more consistently over there. Cheers

funny yet meaningful cartoon

I found WeBlogCartoons when I’m on look out for more cartoon recently. All posts are about something that routine, event or technology,  presented in a funny way through the cartoon(of course) with minimal sentence.

I love his sketch, but unfortunately, Dave Walker (the author) has last updated this blog last year. It’ll be interesting if we can see more from him, right?

Bloggers with cartoon on their blogs

Having cartoon characters or themes with cartoon has become such a trend nowadays. I’m not aware who is the pioneer of this design, but I’ve seen it initially on blogs such as shoemoney and Johncow.

From Uniqueblogdesign(UBD)’s portfolio and Entrecard, I managed to find couple of blogs who have cartoon. If you have your own cartoon that you want to share here or know of any blogs that has a nice cartoon, please let me know.
