Blogjer is now powered by wordpress 2.5.1
Yeah. WordPress 2.5.1 is now available for download. According to the announcement page, it fixes over 70 bugs on 2.5 released.
I consider myself lucky since I have planned and allocated my time today to upgrade blogjer at least to WordPress 2.5. But thank God, the latest version is available there, so this is a bonus for me. In fact, I didn’t even know that 2.5.1 had just been released 2 days ago.
Since this blog was setup almost a year ago, this is the first time I’m upgrading this blog. I’m kinda lazy sometimes to upgrade my WordPress. Until that Sunday..
The upgrading process runs smoothly. But the WordPress Automatic Upgrade is not working this round. I don’t know why. It got stuck in the step of downloading the latest WordPress file. So I continued the installation manually. Thanks to Am for the precious Upgrade WordPress Tutorial. I didn’t know that the upgrade process is pretty simple and straight forward though.
Overall, I did not see any big issue. Only my SK2 is not working properly, it prompts a message error on its plugin setup, but I have since disabled it and enabled back my Akismat temporarily. I’m in a hurry to read a few ebooks that I had just bought yesterday.
I have also migrated blogjer to Serverfreak to take advantage of a more powerful server (hopefully) and to avoid intermittent downtime with Netkl. I still recommend Netkl, it is not their fault either (due to data center issue).
This is the first time I’m doing this. At first I would like to hire someone to do it, but after considering that I have a few more websites (bigger db and file) to be migrated soon, I say to myself why not you do it yourself. Save money and at least I have hands-on experience to do it. Furthermore, if I break apart blogjer, I still have other copy on another hosting.
It takes quite a while to boost my confidence to do it by myself, but these 2 tutorials at howtospoter and optiniche really is a time saver for me. Within an hour everything completed.
However, it took almost 2 days for the DNS replication to complete. When it was first set, DNS was pointing to the new web hosting in within 3 hours. However 1 day after that, it seems that the DNS had pointed back to the old webhosting (I put both server name in my nameserver, to avoid downtime). I’ve no idea why it happened, so in case if you’ve had encountered such a case, I’d appreciate if you can share it.
How to identify if you’re pointed to the new location? You can view the source and look for the line such as below

I am wondering if someone did have problems upgrading wordpress 2.3 to 2.5.1.

Did I tell you that I had problems when upgrading to version 2.5? Anyway, to upgrade from an older version to 2.5, can’t use the automatic upgrade plugin. That’s why it doesn’t work.

I read somewhere that they had some problem upgrading to 2.5 Some plugins and themes is not working properly. But I haven’t heard any prob upgrading from 2.3 to 2.5.1

It was a hard time. I’m grateful now that it’s ok.
I don’t think I want to upgrade it this time.
I didn’t notice any lag during loading, maybe because u already clean up once and the change of server is not significant.
I had some issues when I originally installed wordpress, but I just put in a call to the techs at my hosting company Server Intellect and they installed for me. Ask your host to help you if your having issues installing.

Latest version of wordpress is very cool. Admin section has totally new look.
Latest WordPress is brilliant, not only is it more secure but the admin panel is what sets it off for me. Much better website interface.

i dont really know how to use wordpress, im still on blogger templates. maybe next time i change the looks of my blogs i will consider wordpress…thanks a lot for sharing, you got a neat and clean template…i like the banner

I am glad that your installation went smoothly. I am still on the previous version but I am a little skeptical in upgrading as I might break something or loose some of the plugins that I have that may not be compatible..
Did you check first that your plug-ins are compatible before upgrading?

I would only blog with wordpress. It´s a great CMS. Everything possible with wordpress. Many Plugins, simple interface.
Wow ! I like Word Press a lot but like you mentioned 2.5 has had a few bugs and has caused me a bit of trouble. I am glad to hear of a updated version I am going to download it now thanks , Blog 4 dollars

@Big Slick Web Design – I’ve been using WordPress at the very first day I start blogging. I’m not sure how difficult the migration is as I never tried it.
@Big Slick Web Design, you can’t even imagine what have u been missing out until you migrate. I’ve been using WordPress for a year now, I had used MT before that, and moving to WordPress from any platform is way easier than you could thought, don’t think I’m advertising, I’m just saying what I’ve experienced.

There was a slight lag when i loaded the page but othert than that this is a useful blog thanks man.
I’ve noticed the web site is responding relatively slow to me as well… Where is the host located? I’m on the east coast so that could have something to do with it.

I love wordpress coz it puts very less load on server.at first i was using another cms which hangs my server very oftenly becoz of so hevy scripts but now im running on wordpress form 1 month seems to have a good time.
WordPress is probably the best blogging platform in my opinion.
Word press is a great tool and is a great communication tool. All the additional enhancements make administration easy.
Is this template SEO friendly…?
I used to use wordpress but then I found Graffiti CMS. It is very nice CMS system that easily installs on a windows shared or server account. Server Intellect supports graffiti if your looking for a good host to try with Graffiti CMS.
