Blogjer is now powered by wordpress 2.5.1

Yeah. Wordpress 2.5.1 is now available for download. According to the announcement page, it fixes over 70 bugs on 2.5 released.

I consider myself lucky since I have planned and allocated my time today to upgrade blogjer at least to Wordpress 2.5. But thank God, the latest version is available there, so this is a bonus for me. In fact, I didn’t even know that 2.5.1 had just been released 2 days ago.

Since this blog was setup almost a year ago, this is the first time I’m upgrading this blog. I’m kinda lazy sometimes to upgrade my Wordpress. Until that Sunday..

The upgrading process runs smoothly. But the Wordpress Automatic Upgrade is not working this round. I don’t know why. It got stuck in the step of downloading the latest Wordpress file. So I continued the installation manually. Thanks to Am for the precious Upgrade Wordpress Tutorial. I didn’t know that the upgrade process is pretty simple and straight forward though.

Overall, I did not see any big issue. Only my SK2 is not working properly, it prompts a message error on its plugin setup, but I have since disabled it and enabled back my Akismat temporarily. I’m in a hurry to read a few ebooks that I had just bought yesterday.

I have also migrated blogjer to Serverfreak to take advantage of a more powerful server (hopefully) and to avoid intermittent downtime with Netkl. I still recommend Netkl, it is not their fault either (due to data center issue).

This is the first time I’m doing this. At first I would like to hire someone to do it, but after considering that I have a few more websites (bigger db and file) to be migrated soon, I say to myself why not you do it yourself. Save money and at least I have hands-on experience to do it. Furthermore, if I break apart blogjer, I still have other copy on another hosting.

It takes quite a while to boost my confidence to do it by myself, but these 2 tutorials at howtospoter and optiniche really is a time saver for me. Within an hour everything completed.

However, it took almost 2 days for the DNS replication to complete. When it was first set, DNS was pointing to the new web hosting in within 3 hours. However 1 day after that, it seems that the DNS had pointed back to the old webhosting (I put both server name in my nameserver, to avoid downtime). I’ve no idea why it happened, so in case if you’ve had encountered such a case, I’d appreciate if you can share it.

How to identify if you’re pointed to the new location? You can view the source and look for the line such as below

<link rel='stylesheet' href='http://www.blogjer.com......version=2.5.1' type='text/css' />
<link rel='stylesheet' href='http://www.blogjer.com......version=2.5.1' type='text/css' />
<link rel='stylesheet' href='http://www.blogjer.com......version=2.5.1' type='text/css' />

Btw, did you notice the performance improvement?

Have you upgrade your website?

You might want to consider upgrading your wordpress ASAP if this is what going to happen soon. Some screen shot of my new dashboard

    Michelle, To be very true, this is the only post on a blog where I read about this CMS. I don’t know if it is efficient enough or not but I think there is nothing which can beat Wordpress. I have used Joomla and Drupal as well but they are not a business of an easy blogger. Wordpress has some great plugins which are most wanted reasons to use Wordpress. I have checked site(Graffiti) and it is not free. That might be another drawback. There is nothing better than open source applications.

    @Mrinmay, I never use Drupal, so I’ve no idea how it is. But Wordpress rock!

  4. Kai Lo says:

    I don’t like Wordpress. They have too many strict rules. They don’t like Adsense, and they don’t like affiliate links such as the ones on Clickbank. I got banned once for promoting something that I really love because it was an affiliate program. My blog had great original contents, and the link to the affiliate program would usually be small text link down at the bottom of a post. Since then, I started using Blogger and loved it. They don’t have as much rules as Wordpress.

  5. Meh. I didn’t really like 2.5.1 so much.

  7. Sandeep says:

    Wordpress really rocks but laggs in only one that is they dont like affliate links if it is rectified then it will beat blogger in evry area.

    No way. I m staying on 2.5 as long as it makes sense without loosing to much of new cool features. Heard too much of trouble about the actual 2.7(.1) throughout my friends and colleagues…
    Beside that WP is really cool -> @ Kai Lo: I use Adsense and Affiliate Links in my WP blog, no problem. However, its manual work. ;-)

    I have my latest blog coming up in wordpress, and while I was working on it, I had to break my head until I could plug-in the PLUGIN for adsense; for blogspot it was easy! quite obvious! its from google. I’m looking forward that this could be a great help

  10. Cocoshvela says:

    Without a dub, Wordpress is the best CMS…Drupal or Joomla are ok but their communities are not as big as the wordpress community so it results that wordpress can be easily customized with many many plugins, mods and of course themes.Correct me if I’m wrong ;)

  11. I don’t blame you for putting off the Wordpress migration, but In fact, it has been a while since this post and now Version 2.7.1. is out!

    The latest version of Wordpress is incredible. I try to create as many websites as I can using this platform. It is easy to update the sites and configure the application to make it or search engine friendly. Thanks for sharing your experiences, Wordpress is the way to go for most blogs/CMS.

    You know, I’ve been using many CMS systems, such as Dupral, Mamba, Joomla, but I find Wordpress the easiest to use, while still being powerful enough to build a large website/blog. Wordpress 2.5.1 is the best version yet, it really has some major improvements and is very fast.

  14. Cocoshvela (4 posts above) “Correct me if I’m wrong”

    - Joomla community is huge - 4534 extensions (at time of writing)
    -Wordpress 4,245 (at time of writing)

    So Joomla slightly ahead. Can always find a solutions to a problem on forums etc.

    Anyway both Wordpress & Joomla are kick ass but for different uses / reasons. Wordpress best for small sites and blogs, Joomla for more advanced community sites etc.

    Yet to be convinced by Drupal but have heard its got really good ACL’s and user management.

  15. Lisa says:

    Hey Web Designer,

    I much prefer Drupal to Joomla, and Wordpress to Joomla. Regardless of the number of extensions, bc you shouldn’t judge a CMS system on the number of extensions. Really I mean how many extensions can you have before other ones are copying different extensions with small ‘twists’. Each CMS is made for different reasons, Wordpress is “usually” good for about 90% of those. The more advanced users wouldn’t even consider Joomla or Wordpress in the first place.

  16. joomla is more flexible

  17. wordpress is much better than joomla or drupal. i had websites on those 3 platforms and finally changed all to wordpress.

    Tried Joomla - too steep a learning curve for the benefits you get.

  21. Hiya! Great post, thanks for writing. I installed WordPress 2.71 on my first site, which was actually the first I’d ever heard of WP. Personally I think it works great - even if there are bugs, I’m still constantly amazed at the power of the CMS and the interface overall. Can you tell I’m a newbie? ;)

    Cheers!

    Mrinmay Bhattacharjee: I prefer Wordpress, never got the hang of Drupal. Tried Typo3, yet?

  24. @Kai:

    This post is about Wordpress, the downloadable and install-on-your-own version. You’re talking Wordpress.com, the hosted solution.

    Anyways: Wordpress 2.7.1 rocks!

    You should update to WP 2.8 dude :D

    hi, is this blog still do follow, may i leave an url for backlink?

  27. Admin says:

    Yes, still ‘do follow’

  28. James says:

    I love wordpress, now they provide automatic update with one click button. I still remember how frustrating upgrading the earlier wordpress. :p

  29. I prefer Wordpress too,is user friendly and can be easy customized into anything.
    @James that’s true,one click update is probably best featured they added.

    @Admin why is @Unlocker promoting a cellphone unlocking tool since the discussion is about Wordpress?

  30. wordpress is greate, but I use xsitepro to build static site!

  31. ppc b2b says:

    Ive always relied on the automatic update and that has always worked a treat for me, just enter the FTP password (all the other info is saved) and it takes it from there for me.

    You dont even need to keep the browser open once its underway

  32. Schmuck says:

    Today version 2.8.5 is available… have you installed it?

  33. 2.8.5 - more of the same and very good. Personally I don’t like Wordpress tho, somehow it feels over polished to me. I think I like my blogs to be quite simple and basic.

    The fact that Wordpress does not support affiliate links is a real bummer, it will never be the professional choice of blog.

  34. TechChunks says:

    We are still using WP 2.8.5 and not quite sure whether to upgrade to the latest 2.8.6 version (considering the good probability of the 2.9 release in near future). Has anyone tried WP 2.8.6 here?

  35. shoaib says:

    @Techchunks
    yeah i have tried techchunks and their no visual changes or features added and its completely a security for the blogs that use gues blogging as feature.

  36. MD says:

    does anyone have anything nice to say about the Blogger platform? i am surprised WP has grown like it has…what did Google do wrong with blogspot? how could they have made it better?
