New round of pagerank update?

John Chow had just wrote about new round of pagerank update. He went to PR4 from PR3, congrats!! I didn’t even hear about the page rank update rumors this round, or maybe I had missed it.

Unfortunately, none of my websites had pagerank up, but I’m grateful that none is down. Well, it’s been 2 rounds (last time on last November) without pagerank update. It seems that I have done nothing to enhance my websites’ and blog’s visibility in the eye of Mr G. Or, perhaps the strategy did not work well.

Some PPP blogs has their page rank up as well, but not TLA blog as per one of the commentator. Some commentators also said that the page rank update only happens in the US (but John Chow blogs from Canada).

I did a spot check on a couple of local blogs that I often visit regularly, and none of them has page rank update as well. PageRank updates normally come with full of speculations, since Google usually keeps their mouth shut, whenever there is such thing.

Blogjer.com remains at PR3. When will it get better PR? How about yours?

What is Maybank’s Pre-Autho transaction?

Last month, I have posted a brief review about Maybank Visa Debit Card which was just released at that time. I have no problem at all using it for offline sales.

For bloggers or internet marketers, one of the much awaited function on this card is, whether it can be used to activate your Paypal account or not. Unfortunately, Kak G has attempted to do this, it is not working. Looks like we still need those prepaid and debit cards available out there on the market.

There is one more thing that I would like you to pay attention if you’re card holder. If you fuel up at any petrol station by swapping your card at the pump machine itself, or booking hotel, Maybank will charge you extra, with line item called Pre-Autho in your transaction list. I seldom check my transaction online immediately after shopping, so was quite surprise (and mad) when I see this on my account.

I contact them immediately, and this is how their customer support respon. And I have since then get back the extra amount charged.

What do you think of this kind of process? Does it fair to us as consumer?? Let me know what you think.

Another thing that I notice too is that, when you’re swapping your card in the pump machine, you’re no longer needed to key in the PIN number, as compared to previous card. I feel insecure this way. So in case you card is stolen, you may lose your money easily and almost immediately before you manage to report it to Maybank.

Dear Mr….

Thank you for your email.

We wish to inform you that holding-of- funds for the following transaction will be done. This holding of funds will be reflected as “Pre Autho Debit” in your account statement:-

  • Hotel – Amount depends on the duration of stay whereby on check-in, pre-authorization amount will be charged. During check-out, the pre-authorization amount will be reversed and the actual amount will be charged.
  • Petrol transaction at the pump (outdoor) – Pre-authorization amount is RM150 but some petrol operators allow the cardholder to select the amount at the pump. Pre-authorization amount will be charged to customer’s banking account during the fill-up. The pre-authorization amount will be reversed back and the actual filled-up amount will be charged to customer’s bank account once the bank receives the actual filled-up amount from the acquiring bank. Averagepre-authorization holding day is 3 days.

Should you require any further assistance, you are welcome to contact our Customer Service Executives at telephone number 1 300 88 66 88 or 03-7844 3696 (overseas) 24 hours a day , 7 days a week.

Best regards,

Blogjer is now powered by wordpress 2.5.1

Yeah. Wordpress 2.5.1 is now available for download. According to the announcement page, it fixes over 70 bugs on 2.5 released.

I consider myself lucky since I have planned and allocated my time today to upgrade blogjer at least to Wordpress 2.5. But thank God, the latest version is available there, so this is a bonus for me. In fact, I didn’t even know that 2.5.1 had just been released 2 days ago.

Since this blog was setup almost a year ago, this is the first time I’m upgrading this blog. I’m kinda lazy sometimes to upgrade my Wordpress. Until that Sunday..

The upgrading process runs smoothly. But the Wordpress Automatic Upgrade is not working this round. I don’t know why. It got stuck in the step of downloading the latest Wordpress file. So I continued the installation manually. Thanks to Am for the precious Upgrade Wordpress Tutorial. I didn’t know that the upgrade process is pretty simple and straight forward though.

Overall, I did not see any big issue. Only my SK2 is not working properly, it prompts a message error on its plugin setup, but I have since disabled it and enabled back my Akismat temporarily. I’m in a hurry to read a few ebooks that I had just bought yesterday.

I have also migrated blogjer to Serverfreak to take advantage of a more powerful server (hopefully) and to avoid intermittent downtime with Netkl. I still recommend Netkl, it is not their fault either (due to data center issue).

This is the first time I’m doing this. At first I would like to hire someone to do it, but after considering that I have a few more websites (bigger db and file) to be migrated soon, I say to myself why not you do it yourself. Save money and at least I have hands-on experience to do it. Furthermore, if I break apart blogjer, I still have other copy on another hosting.

It takes quite a while to boost my confidence to do it by myself, but these 2 tutorials at howtospoter and optiniche really is a time saver for me. Within an hour everything completed.

However, it took almost 2 days for the DNS replication to complete. When it was first set, DNS was pointing to the new web hosting in within 3 hours. However 1 day after that, it seems that the DNS had pointed back to the old webhosting (I put both server name in my nameserver, to avoid downtime). I’ve no idea why it happened, so in case if you’ve had encountered such a case, I’d appreciate if you can share it.

How to identify if you’re pointed to the new location? You can view the source and look for the line such as below

<link rel='stylesheet' href='http://www.blogjer.com......version=2.5.1' type='text/css' />
<link rel='stylesheet' href='http://www.blogjer.com......version=2.5.1' type='text/css' />
<link rel='stylesheet' href='http://www.blogjer.com......version=2.5.1' type='text/css' />

Btw, did you notice the performance improvement?

Have you upgrade your website?

You might want to consider upgrading your wordpress ASAP if this is what going to happen soon. Some screen shot of my new dashboard

MAS and MAHB, please fix your service (and crew)

When I was reading about the chaos in the US and Heathrow London airports recently, it somehow reminds me back of what had happened to me last month. I experienced a similar thing, but not this bad. Heck, I almost forgot about this (and this post that was written during the delay). I managed to speak to some of the passengers, and they’ll bring this issue further to MAS (or MHSB) management, but I’m not sure if they’d actually do that.
I decided to post it today, in case MAS has bloggers or any of them reads blogs. For me, it is enough if I can voice my dissatisfaction through blog. I love blog!! I can be reached by everyone borderless, timeless. Btw, I have no mean to tarnish MAS image, but please.. take this as a lesson to improve your service. Instead of lesson learned and forgotten (or di tong sampahkan)

Last month, I was  outstation to Penang due to some work for 3 days. There is nothing better than going back to my house and meet my lovely wife, Mai and my cute baby Luqman. Since this is my 1st outstation after becoming a father, I miss them so much. But, it turned out to be the worst domestic travel that I ever have.

Before that let me talk sweet about MAS. I feel proud with our national carrier, Malaysian Airlines System or known MAS due to its ability to turn black (profit) in only 2 years after making no profit for few years (even though some of the profit is gained by selling their building).
I admit that the cabin crew is friendly, the service is fine and the boarding is on time, most of the time. I’ve been using MAS frequently for domestic travel so far, and I have no complaint against them, except on the fare which keeps on increasing from time to time due to worldwide fuel price increase. But there is one area that MAS should be looking at.

I hate to say this, but I was really pissed off when MAS cancelled the flight without prior notice. This happened to us, passenger flightMHXXX (I forgot the number) on Wednesday for flight 6.45 PM. That’s one thing. What made thing even worst is that, we the passengers have to wait on the ‘Stand by’ counter, looking for the next flight availability, with first come first serve basis.
Unfortunately the seats are limited, and most of us have to be satisfied with 11.25PM flight. However, the issue did not stop there, our flight was delayed again to 11.50PM before we all went on board and successfully landed inKLIA at almost 1 AM. I have to spend almost MYR100 to get LIMO, whereas normally I took ERL which cost me only MYR26. Duh..

At Penang Airport, we managed to talk to their supervisor wearing yellow coat (yeah, it is yellow), we could get some compensation if we write to them.WTF, I don’t really care about money (because this flight is paid by my company, hehe), but what we’re more concern is about time and the service itself.

The bottom line is, ground crews and their services are as important as their counter part cabin crews. They are the face of Malaysia, especially when similar flight also has quite a number of foreign passengers from the middle east and Japan. This is not the best way to handle this situation. MAS should allocate enough space on the next flight, or perhaps getting a bigger flight rather than scheduling them to have flight later of the day. We, customers didn’t care what your reason is, be it flight’s technical problem or so. Don’t you have any spare airplanes?

Couple of other things that I don’t like

Ticketing service
First, they didn’t let us know about the delay. And second, I didn’t catch any announcements or messages informing the delay at the airport. Or maybe I had missed it (which I believe I didn’t), I was only informed when I reached the counter.

Long queue (and slow)
There was a long queue when I attempted to check in. I came in 1 hour and 15 minutes earlier. I’m not sure if MAS is blind or is pretending not to see the long queue on economy class. Perhaps MAS is cutting on cost, and trying to maximize their head count to get a better figure. But please, don’t you care about your customer’s experience dealing with you? Just imagine you’re on our side. How would you feel?? Happy??

Intolerant ground crew

1 thing that irritates me is, how harsh one of the ground crew is. I understand there is tense situation with every customer getting frustrated with what is going on. I took 1 incident that I witness in front of me, where 1 tourist is screaming at her, and she screamed back at her calling her ‘psycho’. I have no idea what got in her mind, but this is too much.

Customer care line
Having customer care line without no one answering the call is like providing a pipe without water.

Wireless hotspot
No free internet in airport, except TMNut TMnet Hotspot.

p/s: It’s been 1.5 months since it happens, but I only manage to complete this post by today.  Imagine how busy I’m.. LoL

Fill up your article directory with articles from Unique Article Wizard

I first came across about Unique Article Wizard or more known as UAW when the ‘founder’ (not sure if it was done by him or outsourced) left his product info in my contact form. At that time, I was skeptical and thought that this is another spam of the day and left the email up until recently, when I plan to change my article directory’s article distributor to get a different and perhaps fresher and unique contents.

Before that, if you’re an article marketer or article directory owner, you might have heard or used their service before. You can stop reading this article since this is for newbies. But you can read it if you like.

As usual, like established article marketers such as articlemarketer.com or isnare, their services are generally divided into 2 types

  • For article marketers who want to market their services/products through articles (BUM Marketing if I’m not mistaken) - UAW will distribute your articles to hundreds of article directories out there who accept articles from UAW
  • For article directory owner to get articles FOC for your article directory

I’m not really into the first part, being an article marketer, even though I did some before, using free articlemarketer tool before. I’m just not a good article marketer and writer (just an excuse). So leave this part to other internet marketing experts such as Dylan Loh or Jon Leger. Ok this article will talk more on the second point, as article directory owner.

Nowadays, there are thousands of article directories out there. It is similar situation like web directory. I myself operate a few article directories using different scripts, article sources and niche topic. It is almost impossible to create a new article directory with zero content, and hoping someone will accidentally found your article directory and submit 1 article. I tell you, if you use this way, you won’t go anywhere. Whereas other similar new article directory has hundreds or thousands articles overnight. You guess, if you’re a visitor, which article directory will you browse to? Which article directory will search engine crawls faster? Definitely the one that have more contents.

This is how article distributors such as UAW comes in handy. It is a win-sin situation between you and the authors. So far, I have been using articles from articlemarketer, articleMS and isnare for my article directories. I’m pretty much familiar on how each system works, the interface script between the article distributor/provider and the article directory. Some of them is quite difficult to be implemented for newbies or those not familiar with php. But after using UAW for sometime, I feel that it is the best.

Why am I saying it’s the best?

  • You can earn commissions from these articles by including the special link that enables visitors to grab their own version of that article. These links can be encoded, automatically, with your affiliate code so that you can earn two-tier commissions on all sign-ups resulted from them.
  • Instant setup with no hassle to modify the script manually - Download the script provided to your article directory, setup from there and immediately receive new articles in seconds
  • Excellent control Panel. Most of the functions below can be modified there, without having to open the script and modify certain flags or parameters
  • Manual approval or auto approval. Most article has this option too.
  • Limit the number of articles you receive in a day.
  • New article notification email - Whenever there are new articles, a notification will be sent to your mailbox.
  • Stop and resume article distribution without making any changes or renaming the script.
  • Change the categories of article you want anytime.

Their script is good, but apart from that, there is 1 downside which I think if they can enhance this, it would be a simply the best script. UAW has lesser categories compared to other article distributors. It takes default categories that your article directory script has. Eg: by default Article Dashboard has 20++ categories, so you can receive articles from this category only from UAW.

Want to know how to setup Wordpress as article directory with auto/semi pilot (some of you might already know how). Stay tune for the next article

Check out the screen shot of the control panel below. Everything can be control from here. Easy and practical!!
