I have updated my Akismet but….

I’ve no idea what’s wrong. Akismet keeps on eating comments from legitimate commentators. I thought it was due to my outdated Akismet, hence I have upgraded it to the most recent one, version 2.14. I thought my problem has been solved, I can leave my spam comments folder to grow bigger, before deleting them in 1 shot. I thought I can ignore my spam folder. But I was wrong. Dang wrong.

Not only the issue hasn’t been resolved, but it’s getting even worst. Not worst until all comments go to the spam folder la, but another blogger has become a new ‘member’ and ‘loyalist’ to this folder. This does not make any sense. WHY??

I keep de-spamming their comments, but it turns out that the next comment is still appearing over there.

This happens only on blogjer. Comments on other blog is OK.

Why is this happening? Is Akismet a slow learner?? I don’t know either.

I know, I’m just a small tiny blogger, so I guess nobody will care about this, right?

What’s next?? I turn off Akismet temporarily. Perhaps it needs some rest after working almost 8 months non stop (almost). I’ll let SK2 guards my blog from the evil spammers out there who’re waiting for every single chance to sell their Viagra, apertimene , ebooks and etc (all useless stuff) on blogjer.

I’d rather de-spam the legitimate comments everyday, rather than seeing my visitor fleeing away when their comments did not appear on the post. Sometimes there are mysteries on blogging as well.

This is the deal. If your comment does not appear on the post, please shoot me an email at [zakifahmi at gmail dot com] or utilize my contact form. I’ll moderate first comment though, but subsequent comments should pass through.

Happy commenting!!!

It takes Askimet a few months to learn that.

I have de-spamed the comments of one of my blog readers for months before it turn out to be okay.

Like you said, it’s a slow learner.

  21. MK says:

hmm, i had posted a comment here before, but it didn’t show up..
probably my comment was marked as spam?

hope this one will make it through the askismet. let’s see ^^

  22. seo lad says:

akismet has never failed me before. What a lifesaver!

  23. MK says:

yay, my comment finnaly got through… hehe

btw zaki, i noticed that this comment section doesn’t remember who we are. i mean, we have to type our name, emel and website again, every time we comment. this is not a problem for me, as i use Opera. but for others, maybe , it is a little.. bothersome. well, maybe. just a small usability issue.

  24. Hmm…. I like Akismet but I think it should work little bit faster.

  25. zaki says:

Are you talking about IE? I use Firefox and Avant, so I don’t see this issue.

  26. zaki says:

Now it shows up. I’ll dig my log or DB to see if it stuck somewhere. Are you comment using the same name and URL?

  27. nUUr says:

spam is already attacking my blog, but yeah.. i already use akismet..i got protection right know

  28. Auctions says:

Askimet is ok but sometimes it actually acts a little bit weird. It was working fine then one day all comments on one of my blogs were as spam. Like ??? Anyways i just manually approve since it’s a personal hobby blog with mostly not much traffic .

  29. Askimet alone will not cut it. Add more protection to your blog. There is the challenge plugin that will ask a question before a user can submit the comment. You can create custom questions and totally throw off the SPAM bots. You can also customize the code so that the text for the comment form looks different and again – reduce the foot print so that SPAM bots cannot find you. A standard WordPress installation is like a business card – open and visible for every one. ;)

  30. zaki says:

@Chris – I have captcha installed before, but it doesn’t work well, and it troubled my commentator. So I removed all of them now

  31. Ryan says:

Akismet blocks genuine commenters and even the webmasters of their own blog. This has happened to me. I am suffering using it, not a great tool. It follows a pretty lame algorithm :-(
See i have not added my website url while commenting coz when i do so my comment won’t show up.
Akismet is hampering the blogging experience of many blog commenters who love to gel with others even though they are relatively new.
