Super Bowl XLII tech companies commercials

American Football is not a big game in this region, we’re more to football or soccer as what American calls our football. Just giving a quick fact of what the Superbowl is, it is NFL’s championship game, a match between the champions of the two league’s conferences: the American Football Conference (AFC) and the National Football Conference (NFC). It’s kinda long story of how this league is formed, but this is not like English Premier League, where EPL have multiple tier divisions according to the performances, but this is 2 different leagues (I can say it is on the same level) whereby the champions compete against each other in Superbowl.

I have known about Superbowl before, but I’ve heard more about it lately, the excitement and fun of this game from my teammates who are based in the US. They’re trying to get me in their conversation even though I know nothing about it. While the game itself is full of excitement, the second most exciting part is the Superbowl advertisement which is aired during the television broadcast. Last year ad costs USD2.2 million for 30 sec ads due to the number of viewers with almost 90 millions. This ads however are available on US and Canada television broadcastings only, but luckily, with Youtube around, most of the ads are available there.

For full advertisement list, direct your browser to NFL official websites. Enjoy!!

Practical guide for commenting : How to ensure your blog receives a max impact from your comments

This is the last part of the practical guide of commenting. Read blogjer’s step by step guide to find the right blog to post comments and also on commenting tips.

  1. Look for dofollow tag (such as at the blogjer.com’s left sidebar). Another way to check is from the page itself

ifollow Practical guide for commenting : How to ensure your blog receives a max impact from your comments

    • for IE click on view -> source
    • for Firefox – click on view -> page source or ctrl+U . Look for the URL of those who has left a comment before. See if it has rel=”nofollow”. If it does, that means your comment won’t be considered as a ‘vote’ for you in search engine.

      <a href=“http://tinyurl.com/blogjer” rel=“nofollow>http://tinyurl.com/blogjerlas</a>

  2. Go for local blog sphere before going for outside of Malaysia blogs. I had put this on commenting tips as well. This depends on who is your blog’s audience too. The weight should be around local:foreign 70:30. But again, this depends on you, and how good your English is. Again this is not necessarily correct in all situation. If you are writing blogs in your native language, you definitely want to go for local scene first, right?
  3. Be more organized, systematic and consistent - spend maybe 1 hour a day or 10 comments a day to leave comments. By doing this, you’re more flexible to write your own post or doing other stuffs. As long as you’re consistent, you can grow your network of friends without abandoning your work or other projects.
  4. Comment on blog that you love to read. Love will attract love!!
ps: I know it is hard to follow these tips, even myself had missed my own tips due to various reasons or excuses. But at least these tips serve as a reminder to me and you. I always welcome any suggestions to make this post a better one. Leave your comment, I’ll appreciate that.

Why is my wordpress slow?

If you notice, blogjer.com is very slow for the last couple of days. I’m very much aware of this, but I couldn’t find out what was happening initially. Only blogjer.com is affected. The rest of the websites sharing the same web hosting package work fine.

After hours of digging, I finally know why. This is how it started. Few days ago, I installed WP-OpenId, OpenId plugin to allow commenting using OpenID standard, which means you can use your account such as Yahoo, Technorati to leave comments. But unfortunately it did not go as smooth as I had predicted.

The problem even started in the midst of activating this plugin. Since I’m still using php4, I have to change some part of the code to get the plugin activated. It works, but the problem didn’t stop there. On this plugin menu, there is 1 warning that I don’t expect to cause slowness on the whole blogjer.com. Furthermore it is a warning message only, not an error. I know it was my mistake for not doing further research when I see this error initially. My bad.. I leave the warning message in place without taking any action. This also causes the drop of the number of visitors and traffic to blogjer.

I’m suspecting this is some kind of memory leaking perhaps

Warning: implode() [function.implode]: Bad arguments. in
/home/myusername/domains/mydomain/public_html/wp-content/plugins/openid/interface.php on line 379

There is adiscussion about this error, but no resolution is found at this point. I have deactivated and deleted the plugin from my hosting package, but it seems the problem can still be seen slightly. I’m thinking of installing WP-Cache2 to increase the performance, but maybe on a later stage and after doing feasibility study of this plugin. I don’t want the same problem reoccurring.

Off topic, I found this articles which is top of the google’s search for the keyword ‘how to improve WordPress performance‘ but it seems like no one is commenting this article. Does it mean that its not good enough, or that Google has mistakenly put this article on top of search engine result?

In case if you’re interested on how to improve your wordpress performance, you better check out WordPress optimization page. There are bunches of information available there.

12 wordpress templates for USD5

wpdesigner button 04 12 wordpress templates for USD5

USD5 for 12 wordpress exclusive themes for it’s member only is not bad at all. This is what I think at least. Called as $5 themes club  you have unlimited access to download the themes provided. The best part is, the theme came with no link to it’s creator, so at least if someone look at your footer, they won’t see who create this theme and this give an impression that you code your own theme (or buy it somewhere), cool!!

The fact that you can modified the theme and make it your own make also make this package really irresistible to be left. You know, what USD5 can buy nowadays. Can you buy themes  elsewhere with 5 buck? Forgive me, I haven’t seen any before..

1 more thing, if you want to start coding your own theme, this theme might be a good start for you.

Google missed earning target, Microsoft offered to buy Yahoo

For the last few hours, there are 2 interesting development of top 3 internet search engines company

Google miss earning forecast
Even though Google continue to be in black (profit) and its profit continue to rise to 1.21 billion from 1.03 billion on the same period a year before, but the fact that it miss the forecasted earning set by market analyst is kinda worrying the investor. OK on the simplest word, investors expect more but Google provides less. What does it mean? This is how I understand. Google’s revenue comes mostly from advertising, and big chunks of it came from the US.

At the moment, US economy is not that stable after the subprime crisis that happened from last year. Financial institution such as Citibank and JP Morgan has loss billion of dollar in their mortgage loan. Due to this also, consumers becomes more careful in spending their penny.

What is the connection between this and Google’s earning? With economic slowdown, the spending on advertising will slightly affected . So the rest is like a Domino effect, the slowdown on the other end will affect the other end along the road and so on

The most significant effect to us is the weakening of US dollar which causing you Adsence earning in USD converted to local currency lesser than usual.

Microsoft offer to buy Yahoo for 44.6 billion
Another not really shocking news, after MS announced their batter than expected profit last quarter, and the gloomy outlook of Yahoo. Ok, this is not rumors anymore. Microsoft has attempted to buy Yahoo before but it was rejected. But now, Microsoft is trying it luck again. Ironically, MS tabled the offer after Terry Semel, Yahoo chairman who’d rejects their offer earlier step down.

What is the problem with Yahoo? Why Yahoo has never recovered from their downfall? Well, the problem is within themselves. Yahoo has the most traffic in the world, but they have problem converting them into earning. Its project such Panama Project is not successful. Same fate goes to YPM which is still in beta stage after a year. Sigh

MS smell the opportunity and definitely trying to take an advantage of Yahoo current situation with hopes to catch up Google who lead the online business market. And with piles of cash it has, buying Yahoo is just another investment to grow bigger

What do you think of the whole story. Can Microsoft buy Yahoo and overtake Google???
