spammer also taking a break

2162590256 976e54a07f m spammer also taking a break

I’m not sure if you notice about it or not, but there are lesser comment spams lately. My blog particularly, received less spams started last December, Alhamdulillah. Oh, what a wonderful world without spam. I believe they’re also taking a break and celebrating the festive and holiday season that had just finished. Do you know, that it is actually not easy to be a spammer, you have to buy or build a huge list of email, write a nice email to ‘help’ (or fool) people around and send hundreds of emails everyday. It must be a very tiring day huh??

Akismet & Spam Karma
Early December, Akismet seems like not filtering spams good enough, flooding my comment section with spams, and since I had enabled comment approval for first time commentators, my email is flooded with new comment notifications as well. It prompted me to enable back Spam Karma to assist Akismet, in their continuous and endless war against the evil spam. Thanks a lot to both of you for the hard work in protecting me from the evilness of spam, so I can blog peacefully. I appreciate your effort very much.

Email spam
I didn’t count the spam emails, since most of them directly goes into the spam folder. But I’m also seeing an increase of spammers from Malaysia, with Malay names, (Sorry I have to say that, shame on you!!) and of course in bahasa Malaysia. Does it mean that the internet marketing in Malaysia has reached to the new height? New height that you’d want regardless if it is halal or not. Do think of it over again and again before you press another send email button to anonymous receiver.

Happy new year, I hope you’d change
I would like to wish a happy new year 2008. May 2008 be a turning back from you being a spammer. Oh before that, dear Mr/Mrs/Ms or tuan/puan spammer, what is your new year resolution?

p/s: the picture is not related to the story. They’re not spammers, but i think they’re from spam.com

complete add-on blogging ideas (updated weekly)

light bulb complete add on blogging ideas (updated weekly)
Finally I’m ready to post this article. It took me a few days to complete this post. Step by step, day by day I spent time to type it, since the ideas does not flow like a ‘flash flood’ in KL or comes in the speed of light.

I first attempted to gather more blogging ideas during holiday 2 weeks ago. But the ideas kept on growing and I decided to compile it and put it on separate articles. Looking at those ideas, I can smell one type of pattern. They can be categorized into 2 major categories, recurring and random.

But first of all, this idea serves as an add-on to your main topics. It’s wonderful if you can post articles related to your blog’s main topic ideas on daily basis, but I know that sometimes we’re lack of ideas, and then there comes the ‘writer block‘. Do you want to leave your blog not updated? If you’re serious in blogging, this is the last thing you would want to do.

I believe there’s a lot more ideas that can be added in that I can’t think of just yet. To gather more ideas, I got another idea. This is the deal, you post your ideas in the comment section and I’ll give you credit (name and URL) on this post. Why should you do that? Blogjer not a well known blog, wasting my time only!! For the past 30 days, I have kept on posting in this blog, and the stats is keeping better from day to day. I belief this blog will get a high PR on a later stage since I’ll keep updating it whenever I got any ideas.

Your idea can be a simple one, 1 or 2 sentence is enough as long as the meaning is clear. No racial, porn, illegal, or copyrighted items are allowed. With these tips and ideas, I hope blogging will be easier for everyone especially to newbies.

How much have you commented?

I’m currently looking for some query or keyword to count how many comments I’ve made so far since I started blogging. If you happen to know exactly how it works, please let me know on the comment section. I feel that I’m lagging behind some bloggers who started almost the same time with me or later than me me such as Raymond and Mr.Rajawang . They are more successful than me in terms of pagerank, alexa, and RSS reader. Comparing to bloggers such as John Cow who started that blog last July, I’m lagging behind him even further. But he has Bob Meet World which he put on sale before setting up John Cow.

But why Zaki Blogjer?
Previously, I keep on changing my name and URL accordingly based on my websites/blogs name so that all of them can get the ‘exposure’ and outbound link from the comments that I make. This technique looks ok to me initially, you will sometime get a few traffics back from the websites that you’ve commented.

But 1 day I think it would be difficult for me to have a better relationship with the blog owner when I keep on changing my name and URL from time to time. And then I started commenting using the same name but with different URLs. This is better. But, it’ll be misleading to someone who knows you by your commenting name, that is when they click on my name it’ll bring them to the other websites which I own(which pointed to URL), so I conclude that this is not good as well.

Finally I end up using ‘Zaki Blogjer’ which I think sounds more friendly and closer to me. It can also differentiate me from fellow bloggers such as Zaki of zakiyamani, or Fahmi (also part of my name) to avoid confusion with FahmiShah of tebaboom.org . Just kidding bro.

Search condition

Ok, back on how to count your comments , I’m not sure if it is possible to count based on the conditions below.

1. I use ‘zaki blogjer’ when I leave comment
2. The URL is ‘www.blogjer.com’
3. Exists on URL only, where ‘zaki blogjer’ is the anchor text

Keyword and syntax I use

In pursuit for this search, it leads me to googleguide.com which provides a bunch of useful resources to do search in Google better, and to understand how it works. This should be useful too, especially if you’re doing keyword research or to get a better search result from your search. Ok, this is the Google Cheat Sheet for your quick reference of what I’ll be talking below. I’m not good too in doing search, so I used ‘try and fail’ method in my research

  • “zaki blogjer” – Returned 4010 results. But there are actually only 14 pages of records which totaled 136 results. Not all results showed my comment, some of them brought me to splog or warez websites
  • allinurl: zaki blogjer- No result returned. Probably no one has mentioned anything about me before
  • inurl: zaki blogjer – No result returned
  • allinanchor: zaki blogjer – No result returned
  • nanchor: zaki blogjer – No result returned
  • inlink: zaki blogjer – returned 1 result

Summary

Nothing came close to what I’m looking for, except “zaki blogjer”. inlink: zaki blogjer looks the right syntax and keyword, but unfortunately it only returns 1 result. Gotta study this further. Btw, do you have any better ideas?

Utusan Malaysia Online new look

utusanonline Utusan Malaysia Online new look

Good morning 2008, the first day of 2008. How is everyone? What? Just woke up?? Haha, just kidding. As usual, I started my day reading local news paper and international news online. Not much hot news, except the new year celebration all over the world. 1 thing that caught my eye today is the new look of Utusan Online.

The looks
Definitely better than before. The front page shows more infos covering all news section. My favorite section, ‘Senyum Kambing’ is also available there.

Site Navigation

Almost the same like before (see the cache), but with some enhancement. There are also top navigation bar which provides non-content menu such as advertising and ‘contact us’.

Search box
This is a must have features for any website/blog. New Utusan Online has this new feature available on its top navigation bar

Ads placement,layout and size
300×250 ads size is among the best ads format (especially in Adsense). It is located at one of the ads hot spot, where most blogs/website nowadays using this location. There are also ads located at the header and both right and left sidebars. With the new layout, Utusan Online should be able to fully utilize its website thus maximizing their online ads revenue.

Google Adsense
Utusan Online should try Google adsense like The Star (another local newspaper). But I believe, since Adsense does not support Bahasa Malaysia yet, the contextual ads engine might not work well and the revenue would be less than private ads. But why not give it a try??

RSS
No RSS available. I prefer to have them even though it is partial feed so I can read them from my RSS reader icon smile Utusan Malaysia Online new look

Overall it looks more ‘professional’ with better site navigation, layout and ideal ads placement. It is more like a portal now for me. The content, you judge it by yourself!!

Update 4-Jan-2007:
Few days after browsing new Utusan Online, I can feel the performance or load time is slightly slow than old the Utusan
