Imagine a World Without Apple, Bloggers, Google or Dell

credit to New York Times

Sit tight, click the youtube play button and sing the song using below lyric. Enjoy!!

Imagine (sung to the tune of John Lennon’s “Imagine”)

Imagine there’s no Apple,
No products that begin with “i,”
No monthly
iPod models,
No Apple stores to get you high.
Imagine all the people

Finding other things to do!

Imagine there’s no bloggers…
It isn’t hard to do!
No viruses or
spyware,
No weekly Windows patches, too

Imagine all the people

Learning to get a life…

(You-hoo-hoo!)

You may say it’d be a nightmare
Without Google, Mac or Dell
We
might have real conversations–
But the world would be dull as hell!

Imagine no new cellphones;
Kiss console games goodbye.
No David Pogue
or Mossberg
To tell us what to buy.
Imagine all the people
Getting
some exercise!

(You-hoo-hoo!)

You may say that I’m a loony
But rest assured I’m almost
done.
I’m pretty sure it’ll never happen
So we nerds can live as one!

Please consider the environment before printing this email

I hate to say it, but ONLY this post is best viewed in IE

This morning when I was doing my daily routine of reading and replying emails, there was 1 particular signature that really caught my eye. It’s about printing your emails. It is also an interesting signature by the way. Looks familiar?? I know you might have seen it somewhere before, but I still want to be part of the campaign, to contribute something to our environment.

P Please consider the environment before printing this e-mail

The tree icon you are referring to is not a pic – it’s a character out of a font called webdings which is a standard font on most computers. So as long as you can use rich text or html in your signatures you are fine.

emailgreen Please consider the environment before printing this email

Firefox seem unable to displays the tree (Capital P in font webding) correctly

Occasionally I do print out the whole long thread email from MS Outlook. You know it could be long, especially when it is of a long thread emails. It will have all signatures (some time fancy order), email addresses, and spaces between the emails. 2-3 emails could easliy took up 2 -3 pages. This signature also reminds you not to print useless emails or jokes from your colleagues for your kids or spouse icon smile Please consider the environment before printing this email Save them into your thumbdrive or show them through your computer enough la.

How to participate?

You can participate on this campaign easily. Just copy and paste them in your email/forum signature or on your favourite social networking website. (it’s not graphic, but font only). It looks simple, but imagine if at least all bloggers take part on do this, the impact will be great.

So what else can you do to be ‘green’?

  • Switch off your wireless network, your computer and other electrical devices when it is not in use. Save electricity and it will indirectly lessen the carbon emission from diesel power plant
  • No, do not throw away your broken or faulty electrical devices. Recycle them. HP and dell has their own recycle stations. For example, your notebook battery does contain hazardous stuffs
  • Reduce printing of dowloaded ebooks, do your studies online instead, whenever possible
  • Do not put your monitor on maximum brightness

Why do you need to be green? A lot

  • You and your kids will live a healthier life
  • Have a healthy longer earth life

So, are you going to be ‘green’ in the next few months? Copy and paste this into your signature.

Offto.net is not working

If you’re cloaking your affiliate URL using offto.net service, please stop now. I’m not sure when it first happen, but I noticed it today when one of my banners didn’t direct me to the actual page. What the heck!! The cloaked URL brought me to the offto.net front page. I tested my other banners, but they’re not working either.

I didn’t receive any notifications from them regarding their service unavailability. Are they actually aware of this? I know Jon Leger is not this type of person. I’m gonna contact them once I finished writing this post. The forum is not available as well.

I just want to alert you on this if you happen to use their service. Looks like I have to find another free cloaking URL services.

Do you have one that’s proven reliable? Please suggest it to me. Oh, luckily Am has posted one article about this.

Hi Zaki,
For safety, over the last few days while the hardware has been changed over the links weren’t added to. They’ll be starting back up again sometime tonight.

What should you do if your comment is marked as spam?

What should you do if your comment is marked as spam?

What should you do if your comments are being flagged repeatedly as spam by Akismet? This is an interesting question coming from one commentator and even myself is puzzled about it. Akismet doesn’t have any setting menu to filter out comments which have certain traits before they are considered as spams, like what Spam Karma has.

I know, it could be troublesome for you either as a commentator or a moderator. As a commentator, you’re frustrated since your comment does not appear on the post, while as a moderator, you have to moderate them everyday, which is quite a tedious work especially if you are receiving hundreds of comments everyday.

I have to keep de-spaming it with hope that it won’t be there again, but it doesn’t work. Next thing you know, the same commentator appears again as spam. Why is the ‘de-spam’ not learning that this is actually not a spam? I don’t quite understand how it works, but it must be something to do with their anti spam engine. Even on Akismet FAQ, “Not Spam” checkbox should work to overcome this, but not in my case.

Don’t worry, if you see a regular comment on your Akismet page, just click the “Not Spam” checkbox and submit, and the comment will be sent back to Akismet as a mistake. The system will learn from your submission, though it may take a day or so in some cases. False positives, as they’re called, are extremely rare and we should watch them very closely.

You as this blog commentator
Is your comment flagged as spam on other blogs as well? I’ve identified a few commentators having his comment frequently flagged as spam.
Have you contacted Akismet about this problem before?

Solution
I couldn’t find the exact solution for this. But while digging on this issue further, quickonlinetips seems to has faced the same issue before. The de-spam comment does not work for them too, and according to them, the best way is to contact Akismet and tell them about your problem.

Other resources
While digging on this issue too, I found some other discussions in wordpress forum, but apparently it hasn’t been resolved yet. So I believe what quickonlinetips is suggesting above is the best at the moment. If you have ever heard about this issue somewhere else (on which I had missed), please do let me know on my comment section.

Akismet new features
On an unrelated story, akismet has a new interface which separates comments, trackbacks and pingbacks to separate tabs.

How to prevent spammer from even start commenting?
Check out bad behaviour

The effective tools of ppc are used by the efficient search engine optimizers to enhance the productivity of any IT organization. There are a number of web directories which provide information how to get online webmaster tools. The webhosting services are presentable if the proprietors offer dedicated servers for high quality hosting plans. The domain registration services are charged with inexpensive rates if the customers purchase from their specific hosting service provider.

Malaysian Dotcom Youth Search ceremony part 2

This is the continuity of yesterday’s post. I decided not to go to PWTC, instead, I went to Alamanda Putrajaya for shopping and viewing of the new Proton Saga. It is indeed very nice, and if I’m not committing myself on my current car’s monthly installment, perhaps I’d be getting one for myself. Btw, I’m sorry for not providing much details about the event on yesterday post, I was there for only a short period of time, not much to be covered. And there is a lot of work to be completed in office yesterday, I was only able to view the pictures and write the post at around 1.30 am, sigh…

Well, part 2 is not that interesting too ;(, I can’t gather much information about the event on the net. Even, the official website also doesn’t provide such information. Walau-eh!!

The winner
First thing that you wanna know!!

The Malaysian Dotcom Youth Search Award

Name : I’m not sure. But this guy is humble and really down to earth. He deserves to win this contest. His father was accompanying him too, must be a dad’s son huh?
Website : ShoutMix.com – Free chatbox for websites
Alexa Rank : 17,008
Pagerank : 6
backlink : 26,300

Most Popular Blog Award

paultan Malaysian Dotcom Youth Search ceremony part 2

Name : Paul Tan
Websites : PaulTan.org – Most of you have heard about his blog, all about cars
Alexa Rank : 11,454
Pagerank : 6
backlink : 4310

How is the winner chosen?

I’ve no idea on this, and it seems to be another unanswered question that only the organizer knows. It is definitely not based on popularity or traffic, otherwise Paul Tan who won the most popular blog would have easily won this contest. In fact, according to one of the moderators in eMenang, the winner does not even installed the script to get voted!!!!

So these are my assumptions:

1. The commercial value of his site and the possible unlocked value of the website and the partipant
2. How the same product can be developed further or on the collaboration that can be made with the winner
3. The entrepreneurship spirit and the age- he started at 21 if I’m not mistaken
4. The participant’s skill set – During the media conference the winner mentioned that he started coding this program by himself since studying in MMU.
5. The organizer’s future planning and agenda which suits with the winner-to-be

The event

YouthMalaysia is a lot more than this contest alone. There’s a lot more activities which you can find on their  outdated webpage. Dotcom Youth Search award is one of them, and there are others such as TafficJam, fashion, YouthStyle, futsal, graffiti, charity and etc.

The Organizer

joelneoh Malaysian Dotcom Youth Search ceremony part 2

YM is the brainchild of Joel Neoh, the winner of The Firm, which was aired on NTV7 last year. It was co-organized by MCA, Ministry of Youth Development, Rakan Muda and co-sponsored by gov and private agencies. Just imagine, the total prize is 300K, it is not cheap, so someone must be sponsoring this, if not, it must be coming from the gov.

The Goodies

We’ve got TM nut beg freebie containing gossips and entertainment (what the heck!!) magazines, pen, event’s pamphlet and a mouse pad. Btw, since I have 2 sets of this goodies, I decided to give it away to anyone who’s staying around Seri Kembangan or is working near Cyberjaya. First come first served. Contact me if you’re interested.
