AMD’s Spider

spider3 AMDs Spider

Chip maker Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (AMD), the world’s No.2 microprocessor maker, has released its latest microprocessor; Phenom which is the company’s first quad-core processor for desktop PC market, a year after Intel’s first quad-core chips were released.

In addition to that, AMD also unveiled an all-in-one bundle of silicon components for desktop PCs, dubbed Spider.

It envelopes an all-AMD processor Phenom chip, graphic cards, and chipset for the most complete computing platform. The two Phenom processors are essentially desktop versions of AMD’s Barcelona quad-core processors. They’re designed for the upper half of the desktop market: gamers who don’t have thousands of dollars to spend on the ultra high-end equipment and families who want a powerful home PC without breaking the bank. When combined with the Radeon HD 3850 and 3870 unveiled last Wednesday, you get a pretty decent system for around $900 to $1,200, said Leslie Sobon, director of desktop product marketing for AMD.

This really sounds nice, but not in my plan to go for one just yet. Maybe anybody whose gotten one of these can share the feel and experience :D

Do you care how much you earn?

If you receive you payment for your internet income in USD, you’ll notice that USD is converted less against other currencies such RM (Ringgit Malaysia) on the past few months. The same amount in USD few months back converted more than what I got now. The decreasing of about 4.3% might be little, but if you earn thousands per month, the different will be greater.

I’m creating graph below based on HSBC’s outstation cheque exchange rate for the past 4 month (when I started using their service). This might not a clear indication how USD performing are, but I’m trying to show how much you’ll earn from your pay cheque based on bank conversation rate (slightly different for each bank), since the concept of selling and buying is not used here

I still remember when 1 USD is equal to RM 3.8 sometimes back; the amount converted must be very well compared to the current situation. But I believe there is more positive impacts about this rather than the negatives. For consumer like me, obviously we’ll pay less when we shop online such as at Amazon and eBay or buy any digital product using our Paypal account.

Why USD weakening? I’ll let you answer this question if you happen to know it, I can guess but I’m not sure if it’s correct. Talking about USD, I found 1 interesting article from Bloomberg recently, about Supermodel Bundchen who refuses to be paid in USD. Interesting.. You can guess why.

To get accurate exchange rates history, you can get it from Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM or Central Bank of Malaysia)

End of waiting part 2

This should be another round of waiting. Yeah I’m waiting my telephone line and internet connection to be installed to our apartment. Months ago I’ve moved to KL from Penang, Malaysia and we have requested our telephone line and internet connection transferred as advice by our telecommunication provider (you can guess who’re they). They give us 2 week, and promised everything should be in place on time

However everything is not materialize, it’s a false promise. I’m not going to tell the whole story, but I can say that their customer service is s**k, especially their phone support. Their operator or tech support can’t be trusted. Each of them will give different accuse and promise every time I made a call to them (not toll free)

After 4 weeks, I’m finally decided to go to the nearest service center with hope it will get fixed ASAP. Again, I’m surprised when their customer executives inform us that there is no record or service made for us, which is totally different from what was promised to us when we call their phone support. I guess the phone support pretending that they were doing something but actually none. It needs me to come over twice before everything settled.

I’m actually felt very sad with how our local company servicing their customer. We’re not new, we have been using their service for almost 2 years, and we never missed our monthly bill.

I’m working in one of Forbes top 1000 company and I understand how important good service to the customer. I also understand that not everyone can give a good services to every customer, but in my case, we made 6 calls to the their phone support services, none of them fruitful and what made me puzzled, each of them give different accuse and answer. It’s amazing, it seems like they have no standard procedure to handle this issue from their end.

They should have so called service level agreement (SLA) which will guarantee, each issue is handled properly and in timely manner. Each issue should be handled by group of people until it is solved, and not passed around from one group to another. They must have checklist of what needs to be done for each customer requesting certain services, so that they won’t have to come over twice or more.

Tell me if you know which company I’m talking about here. :D
