I’m thinking of writing about this after I win podcast set from createbusinessgrowth on earlier post. I feel too excited like a kid getting transformers robot as a present from their parents during birthday (I wish I have transformers robots too).

I’m not yet monetizing this blog, so another ways of getting something back from your blog is by joining contest. Since I join my first contest from John Chow, it grows to quite a numbers after that. Contestblog is one of the earliest blog on this topic, and it still one of the blog that I frequently visit if I’m looking for contest. I strongly recommend it to you

I enjoy participating in any contest since it build up my writing skill as well as adding more friends, but does contest good for your blog? Yeah I admit that for something that exist, there are always pros and cons about it. Here is what I think

Pros

  • Additional income - Of course but only if you win
  • Publicity - Same as above, if you win the contest.
  • Additional link to your blog via comment submitted, or the sponsor is kindly enough to list down all participant
  • Enhance your review skill - Review require great observation on the whole blog including design, post, category and etc

Cons

  • You looks desperately looking for something as a return to you blog; maybe
  • You looks greedy - If you join too much contest without posting anything else (unless your blog is specifically for contest); Who cares
  • Possibility of losing your readers - Your readers getting bored with your blog since there are too much contest posts; This is not good
  • You will spent more time on contest rather than your topics; absolutely

Contest as one of you post
The greatest challenge to make a review for any contest is to make it not looks like a review. The way you include the anchor text required must be well blended with your sentence. Except for paid review which requires you to give a great length of full review, review for any contest is not that length and details. Make it interested but simple with what you have observed on the blog that you reviewed. I admit I’m not very good at that yet, but I have read a lot from great reviewer such as Kumiko, John Chow and Contest Blog

Sample of bad and good anchor ext placement

eg: Bad : You can get the more info about blogjer contest here
Good: Blogjer contest is offering fabulous prize for those who review his blog

Look at the different. Second sentence is more lovely than the first one!

Contest Blog

Btw, this is some of the contest blog that I found when I do searching on the net. If you have better contest blog, why not post it here!

Yeah, contest is rock!! But you’ll need extra work though.. And luck is playing its part also here. I do join contest if I’m free, and the prize is awesome

Sha,
Welcome to blogjer!! Thanks for dropping by.. and link back. I can’t afford to do any contest yet at the moment. Anybody want to sponsor?

Hi there,

Well to host a contest you don’t necessarily have to fork out cash. A good services or act of good will like promoting other ppl site also can be use as the winning prize. Like people always said, time is precious. Not many people have the time to do it so perhaps you can ’sell your time’ as the prizes.

Perhaps this article will do you some good.

Its common when relating cash with contest(maybe). I do agree that contest does not necessarily awarding cash (or sort of), but other thing as an award. But for new blog with PR0, no name, IMHO its quite hard to achieve it

I’ve started my own contest on my blog. Until now, there are very little entry I’ve got. But I still gives the prizes to the one who win.

Hi Paypal,

Nice to see some honest contest organizer from Malaysia. Really proud of you. If you dont mind, I think major drawback of your contest is because it is only open to Malaysian.

Nonetheless its a good experience for yourself and you can even blog about it later on your site. Perhaps in the future you can host a contest that open to all regardless of their nationality. Of course, you need to change the prize too as I doubt the top up card will work outside our country.

Cheers!

Blog contest site - Its PR4 man, work on it, monetize it!!

Paypal2u blogger- Maybe you should start another round of contest. I can help promote it here, maybe with some banner, if you’re interested.

And yeah, Sha is quite right, you can offer something else as returned.

Btw Sha, which prize draw most participants? Money or physical stuff?
