How they rank depends on many factors, I have never promoted my http://www.dating-articles.com/ MS site yet it gets me fair traffic from Yahoo I think this is due to the domain that was used previously and there are also quite a few people looking for the "dating articles" keywords so I get many of them.
But with the http://www.mangiaredoc.com site using AD I am getting no better luck. I get a bit of traffic only because 90% of its content is unique but it is harder going. However it might be due to it being an Italian site and so there's fewer users.
One of the main let downs of the AD "not customizeability" script is that I get tons and tons of articles not relating to the sites topic and in the wrong language due to automated submitting software and I can't just kill all the pending articles in the one go, but must go into the guts of the database to do it.. a bit of a prob when not too SQL savvy.
In the end, for ranking good, the best script I found is still wordpress, but again I think that whatever script one uses the main factors are website ontent and how often one adds new content.
My main ranking sites are ugly static html things which I update often with content people are looking for.
have fun and good luck with whatever efforts you are all doing :)

I'm in for Article MS too although I'm working on AD and Wordpress.

I have 3 article sites set up at the same time but the one using AD got indexed much faster and has a higher alexa ranking compared to Wordpress and Article MS.

I'm pretty much familiar with AD, since I have customized quite a number for my directory. But looking at your MS, I have never customized it up until this level. 1 think that I notice is, AD has more likely to rank and indexed better than MS directory. I'm not sure how, but I have tested it when I build 2 directory using AD and MS and just leave it accept approving and doing site maintenance. It's ended up AD directory has perform better than MS

I agree with the comments on article MS, I am using it too. But you must be a bit knowledgeable with php and html to be able to modify it a bit, if you are not, then article dashboard comes with a few more functionalities right out of the box that MS does not have.
you can see one of my non standard MS sites here http://www.dating-articles.com and a very standard Article Dashboard site I recently built here http://www.mangiaredoc.com
Another thing worth considering between the two scripts: both carry a link back to their authors (on every page) but MS allows you to pay $80 to remove the link while AD is encrypted so there's nothing you can do, this hinders any customizing you might want to do.

My vote goes for article ms. The script is way more customizable than all the others I have tried and they have an ative forum where users freely share tips and code.
If you are thinking of starting your own article directory this might be a good choice of script, however be warned that running a directory is more work than you think.
You must read all articles or you just won't get any search engine ranking and this equates to a huge waste of space.
I have sites with ten custom mritten pages that have a pr of 5 and it only took me 3 days to create, but my article directory so far is sitting with a pr of 0 even if I try and approve only good articles.
The prob is that people don't submit only to your directory so each article you get is likely to be a duplicate.

I am sticking at it but it is definitely hard work

anyway, come and see what my MS Powered site looks like at http://www.articlelogy.com I am still developing it.

[...] ArticleMarketer.com This is the first article source that i know. The main concept of article marketer is they will accept articles submitted by authours (you must register and pay small amount of money to have full functionality) verify and approve the articles before distributed it to thousand article directory out there. To receive articles, you must first register (free of charge) before choosing topics that you’re focus on. If you’re using Article Directory or Article Live script, you will be able to receive the articles using script provided by your article directory provider. Otherwise you have to receive the articles by email which I think require more effort and time. Read back my article title ‘Choosing your article directory script‘ [...]

So is Article MS a paid script right now?

I had one of those in my site when it was released for free. I think it's a good script - fast and easy to use.
