Article directory - What we have learn so far

Today would be last day before I go back to my hometown for 4 days. As usual it was another busy day with a lot of works to do in a workplace. I have had plan to post something today, but I think I should postpone it to other time

StatCounter - Now 5 Times Better - FREE!

StatCounter

After disabling StatCounter for quite sometimes, I have decided to use back their service after receiving an email from them recently about their recent service enhancement. What make me attracted, is because StatCounter has increased the numbers of log from 100 to 500 for each project (your website) which means you can track down the last 500 page loads.

When I disable StatCounter script last time, it is not because of their service is bad, but it is due to the slow loading times on my website, which I suspect because of too many Javascript running on the backed. But after my web hosting moved to the new and more powerful server, the page loading times has reduced drastically. But since then, I have forgotten about my StatCounter, and their email has remind me back about them

Currently I am using Google Analytics to get the basic statistic about my website such as the number of visitor, page loads, main content and etc. I’m not good in manipulating or utilizing any tool, but so far it serves me well. But I think it’s time now to get more than 1 statistic tool for the purpose of comparisons.

Email Report

Ability to send the statistic report to you on weekly or monthly basis which i think is lack on Google Analytics (if I’m not mistaken)

Keyword analysis

Provide statistic what keywords your visitors used to reach your website. This menu has ‘keyword drill down’ features which allow you to view the visitors detail such as IP address, browser version and etc

Provide information how the latest visitors reach your website excluding the search engine results. In my simple word, it track from where your visitors came from minus search engine. Another great feature if you want to track down how effective your involvement in internet communities such as MyBlogLog, link exchanges, web directory, commenting other blog and etc

The screen shot tell you from which search engine your visitor mostly comes from. Huh, none came from MSN??

Recent Visitor Activity

Another great features if you have plan to market your website worldwide It displays from where your visitors came from in the big map.

Tips : What I did before is, if I have less or no visitor from certain country, I will searching for main local web directory available there, and submitting my website to it.

System Stat.

Provide statistic about your visitor’s system statistic such as screen resolution, operating system and Javascript. Great info to optimize your website according to what you visitor use

Thats is some of the great features available on StatCounter that I manage to try it out. You can try the free version but it is limited only to preview the last 500 page loads.

In overall, the best feature that makes it stand out compared to Google Analytics would be the ‘drilldown tool’ which give you ability to get the detail about your visitors. The page navigation also is convenient with all menus are located on the left pane

What I missed
Goal - This is the features it is lacking of. I use this features a lot in Google Analytics to track down campaigns that I have.

After spending about an hours digging StatCounter features and writing this blog, I regret for ignoring StatCounter service back then. If you haven’t use it, trust me, go get it now. If it’s not better than Google Analytics at least it is on par with it

Article Directory - part 5- Source of articles

When I first plan to have my own article directory, I always ask my self, how do i get tonnes of traffic to my directory? Who will submit the articles to my directory? Are there any people out there interested in reading my article directory? And not forgetting how to monetizing my article directory (even in very early stage of planning, I already thinking about money). There are so many ‘what’, ‘who’, ‘how’ and ‘why’ keep flashing on my mind? 6 months ago, I’m totally absolute newbie with zero information about internet marketing, but I’m a little bit proud now with what I had achieved, even though there are a lot of holes that i still need to cover up

Ok, back to this topic, to get tonnes of articles to our articles directory is not as hard as what you imagine before. To get started, let’s go to some of best content providers that I ever know

ArticleMarketer.com
This is the first article source that i know. The main concept of article marketer is they will accept articles submitted by authours (you must register and pay small amount of money to have full functionality) verify and approve the articles before distributed it to thousand article directory out there. To receive articles, you must first register (free of charge) before choosing topics that you’re focus on. If you’re using Article Directory or Article Live script, you will be able to receive the articles using script provided by your article directory provider. Otherwise you have to receive the articles by email which I think require more effort and time. Read back my article title ‘Choosing your article directory script‘

iSnare.com
This is my secondary source of articles. Like Article Marketer, iSnare also provide articles to be publish to article directory owner. Registration is free. Again, for Article Directory owner, you will have slight advantage because there is a script provided to automate the process

I never use their service before. But some of you might interested to give it try

Pay attention on this
ArticleMarketer.com and iSnare.com are services that I’m currently use. So far it works pretty well, but there are some important point that you need to pay attention about automated content receiving process

1. Since the process of receiving content was automated, there are possibilities to receive duplicate content. If you’re using Article Dashboard, it has menu on admin panel to list down and delete the duplicate contents
2. Using automated receiving content will easily increase the number of articles and authors on your directory. But keep in mind, not all articles has quality on it
3. Do housekeeping on your article directory at least once in a month. Even though your content’s provider has taken necessary steps to filter out those spamming articles such as porn and scam, some of them still reach us. Browsing your article directory from time to time will give you an idea what’s going on inside
4. The more articles that you have means the more disk drive needed and more powerful server to handle all those operations and visitors. Keep loading time as low as possible is highly recommended to attract visitors staying longer in your directory and possibly comeback again in future

The importance of manual article submission.
Although I’m not denying the importance of automated article submission especially for new directory, having actual author registering and submitting articles is more important in a long run. You will get loyal visitor who will come visiting your directory from time to time. In my opinion having this visitor is more important than visitor who came to your directory via search engine. I can bet that none of authors submitted by your content provider will ever reach your directory if not referred by search engines.

Another blog with red hot ferrari as it’s header representing Jason’ blog. When i first read this blog, I tought he is really making money from this blog and driving ferrari (wow), but this is actually rented car which Jason drive on his way to Las Vegas for holiday. Not bad anyway, at least you can afford to rent Ferrari

As what I did on my first review on certain blog, I will subscribe to the RSS feed because of it easiness for me to browse from one article to another looking for the best content, provided that they opt for full feed. I always believe in content will determine how good is your blog in future. Going through it, it does have few articles that catch my eye. The topic is vary from blogging, automobile, his personal life, make money online, wordpress plugin and etc. I list down few articles that catch up my eyes and worth my reading

In terms of graphical user interface (GUI), it is using 2 column with neatly arranged menu and plugin. Though it looks simple, but I do like blog with white or lite color on the background. It also has menu on top of it header to ease the movement from one menu to another which I feel is a must for blog in order to maximize page views per visitors rate.

What make feel amazed with this blog is how he achieve PR5 in roughly 5 months, which means 1 PR per month. From the RSS feed, the earliest article posted on Feb 10th 2007. Congrats dude, it’s awesome. By the way don’t forget to review this blog, it has PR5.. :)

I like quote and the quote on this blog is quite catching, “no limitation, just you and your keyboard” is especially true to motivate blogger to pour 100% effort to make their blog and it content better. Keep up a good work man..

Important lessons from internet and blogging

I have been off line for the past 2 days attending my elder brother’s wedding ceremony in Shah Alam, Selangor Malaysia. It was very fun and happy moments for us since we have new family members and I will get new and the only elder sister (even though she is is younger than me Lol). In Malay tradition, we have 2 different ceremony, the first one would be held on bride’s house, while the second one would be held in bridegroom’s house which would in my parent’s house a week later.

Finish story about wedding ceremony, I’m back to Penang this evening (around 6.AM CST), and immediately check my blog, email and of course my income. I’m actually not planning to write anything today since I’m still quite tired after long hours driving, but suddenly I have an idea what should I write today from those emails and report

Do no depend solely on PPC.
I was quite surprised today when the income for this Saturday & Sunday is half from what i normally earn, even though the number of visitor and page views are almost the same. Usually, weekend would be among the day where i earn the most and i have the heaviest traffic. Normally, less traffic and page views means less income but you know, the internet is something that you can’t predict

Even though income from this source is really unpredictable but it still quite important to me since I have not yet mastering building income from affiliate, having membership program or creating newsletter which I’m still in process of learning. Even blogging is something new to me.

I also have plan to start getting involved in some of pay per post kind of things, but this blog was not approved since it was not fulfilling the terms and conditions stated(another example of not reading terms and conditions which I will talk about it later in this post)

Submit your website to appropriate directory
I have my website ranked first on one web directory removed from the listing recently. Though this is my mistake, since it was submitted to incorrect web directory, but i still feel frustrated why they have approved my submission at the first place. But when my website started to ranked better and even ranked first, only then they take an action using this reason. Though this listing does not really affected the number of traffic (not sure on the long run), but i have lost a numbers of visitors from there.

While I’m upset about this , it will became a tough lesson for me to read the ‘terms and conditions’ before make any submission to any directory out there or clicking ’submit’ or ‘agree’ button on something after this

Terms and Conditions (TOC) or Term of Services (TOS)
How often do your read terms and condition before your proceed registering or accepting something. How often you check back the TOC and TOS for any programs that you have joined? I bet no one read it all except for something that related to monetary such as our PPC program, clickbank or paypal. Taking TOS or TOC for granted is something we should avoided to avoid possibilities of losing potential of income and benefit in future. As what i have mentioned above, i have losing a numbers of traffic due to this silly mistakes which i can avoid if i read it carefully

If you’re an adsense publisher, this is something that you should take it seriously since Google will make changes on it TOS from time to time. Read it more at official adsense blog

Human made mistakes, so do I. Learning from mistakes is harsh, but it does serve well to us in future.
